Confirmation

We welcome our Confirmation candidates who are invited to explain why they chose their Saints name and some information about the Saint at Masses this weekend.

On Tuesday, 25th February, the Candidates and their families will have an opportunity to receive the Love of God in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. This Sacrament will take place in St. Mary’s Church, Julianstown at 7:30 pm.

Our Parish Confirmation Ceremonies will take place in St. Mary’s Church on Thursday, 27th February at 10 am for children from St. Patrick’s School and 12 pm for children from Whitecross School. We ask you to pray for these, and all our young parishioners and their families.

Church Etiquette

Our two churches, and indeed all churches, are Sacred Spaces. They are a little oasis away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life where we can go to spend some time having a chat with the Lord.

In this sacred space, we do not use Mobile phones, we remove our headwear, we genuflect to acknowledge the presence of the Lord and to ask his blessing when we enter and when we leave our church.

It is a place of Prayer that we need to protect and ensure that our actions don’t disrespect or hinder others who are spending time there in prayer with the Lord.

Prayer-time is precious; People gather early, before, and stay after Mass in Prayer and we must make sure to encourage and protect this quiet time.

We must ensure we don’t turn our Church, our Sacred Space, into a venue! We must ensure we do our utmost to preserve its sanctity and pass on this respect and love.

As our churches are sacred spaces, places of prayer to spend precious time with the Lord, I am sure you will agree it is not appropriate to use vapes, or to bring in drinks or food of any kind.

When we gather in Church for the Sacraments, especially Mass, we gather to pray as God’s Family.

When we pray, we do not expect applause, as prayer deepens our relationship with God, it is renewing our relationship with our friend Jesus.

When we participate in singing, this also enhances our prayer and again, we do not expect applause. In Church, musical enhancement of liturgy is never done as a performance, but to give glory to God. When we sing at Mass, I think St. Augustine said it best when he said; “when we sing, we pray twice”.

In our parish we are truly blessed with fabulous Singers and Choirs. They contribute so much to our liturgy, nourishing our relationship with Christ, our prayer life. Our Choirs and Singers sing to praise God and to assist us in deepening our own faith. They would love for you to participate by joining them in singing at our celebration of our Masses.

There will be many opportunities for applause at special Ceremonies, or to praise someone, and we welcome these opportunities when all are invited to join in an applause of appreciation. Please reserve applause for these special occasions.

In our increasingly busy lives in the hustle and bustle of daily affairs and the ever-encroaching pressures of secular world practices on our faith, it is important we not only protect but enhance our sacred spaces so we all can enrich and fully experience God’s love for us.
