Stamullen Road Club

Last week in the Peter Bidwell Memorial race held at Donore, Drogheda, Craig Sweetman finished in 4th place.  It was nice to see our ex club member Sean Landers from nearby Balscadden flying home to take a magnificent win in this race. Sean is in full-time education in UCD Dublin and it made perfect sense that he should team up with the already established UCD cycling team.  While Sean is not racing in the Stamullen RC colours, he is still held in high regard by our club members.  Other who have been racing very well but out of the prizes are Arek Klus and James Hughes. Aoibhinn Sharkey who races with the Under 12’s is now making the transition from cyclo-cross to road racing for the summer month’s and is enjoying the change of scene.

This weekend, Craig and Arek will both compete in the Gorey three day race which will take place over this Easter Saturday, Sunday and Monday.  The race starts off on Saturday morning from Blessington with the stage finishing up in Gorey. Sunday will see a double stage with a morning Time Trial and an afternoon circuit race around Craanford in Wexford.  Monday will see the final stage returning from Gorey to Blessington.  We wish the lads a safe weekend of racing.

Stamullen Road Club members would very much like to welcome back to the fold, Javan Nulty who will be a terrific asset to the club. Javan is a very experienced and successful cyclist coming from a family steeped in cycling with his Dad (Colm) having won the Ras Tailteann and his Uncle Mick being an All-Ireland Road Race Champion.

Gormanston Beach Clean-up – Saturday

Please note the clean up of Gormanston Beach will take place at 10 am at Delvin River Viaduct on Saturday, 4th May.

Clean up generally runs from the Delvin River’s Bremore Beach to Ben Head cliffs.

Julianstown & District Community Association AGM

The Annual General Meeting of the Julianstown & District Community Association  will be held in the Church of Ireland Parish Rooms, Laytown Road, Julianstown  on Thursday, 16th May at 8 pm.  All members and interested individuals are welcome to attend.

Julianstown  & District Community Association  is run by a group of volunteers  who give up their time and effort to develop and regenerate the village on your behalf.  If you recall the whole centre of Julianstown was derelict;  the Old Mill Hotel burned to the ground and the Pub closed!  John Macken & Tom Carson have given a heart back to our village when they totally refurbished ‘The Lime Kiln’ and opened the Gastro Pub and Shop.

Meanwhile, we  hope you are  delighted with the new lights on the bridge  for which we received a grant under the Town and Urban Renewal Scheme, and this will also include a Clock Tower.

We  will shortly be starting a complete revamp of the beds going up the hill in Julianstown and are in the process of drawing up a design. This will create a focal point going up through the village and also include additional seating.   We hope that you will support us by  either giving a helping hand or making  a donation towards the project.

We want Julianstown  to grow into an attractive, safe and sustainable village which will be home to a vibrant, creative and enterprising community, welcoming to all.
