Safeguarding Children in Meath Diocese

As a constituent member of the Catholic Church in Ireland, we recognise and uphold the dignity and rights of all children, are committed to ensuring their safety and well-being, and will work in partnership with parents/guardians to do this. We recognise each child as a gift from God, and we value and encourage the participation of children in all activities that enhance their spiritual, physical, emotional, intellectual and social development.

All Church personnel (including clergy, religious, staff, volunteers and any other Church personnel) have a responsibility to safeguard children through promoting their welfare, health and development in a safe and caring environment that supports their best interests and prevents abuse.

Details of personnel to contact if you are concerned about the welfare and safety of children:

The role of Designated Liasion Persons in the Diocese of Meath is carried out by Ms. Nuala McLoughlin and Fr Sean Henry. Their task is described in the national guidelines “Safeguarding Children” as follows:

  • To hear concerns relating to safeguarding, including any disclosures or allegations of abuse, and take responsibility for managing the response to that concern or disclosure, from start to finish. This includes the preliminary internal inquiry and referral to the Health Services Executive and/or An Garda Siochana.
  • To ensure that the person raising a concern, disclosing abuse, or making an allegation and anyone who is implicated by that are regularly informed about the progress of the inquiry process
  • To record all steps undertaken as part of this process.

Ms Nuala McLoughlin can be contacted at 086-1574774 or info@meathsafeguarding.ie
Fr Sean Henry can be contacted at 0469431251 or shenrytrim@gmail.com

Safeguarding Children

All leaders/helpers involved in Children’s Liturgy are asked to complete a Garda Vetting form which is available in the Sacristy. Completed forms can be marked for the attention of Carol or Stephen and left in the Sacristy for collection, or posted  to the Parish Office, on/by Sunday, 29th January.

When all forms are completed they will be posted to the Safeguarding Team in the Bishop’s Office.
