Stamullen Road Club
Last week in the Tour of the North, Cian Delaney recorded a fantastic (2nd) in the Time Trial.
Next weekend the club promotes two major races over Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday 9th April in Balscadden the club hosts the inaugural John Reilly Memorial Cup. John, before his untimely death, was involved in local cycling for about 50 years and was always of great assistance to Stamullen RC. It will be an honour for the club to remember John in this way and thanks to the Reilly family for making this possible.
Racing will get underway in Balscadden on Saturday morning at 10:30am with the Underage Races and then the Senior Race will have a start time of 11:45. Here Seniors will complete (6) laps of Balscadden, Gormanston, Stamullen, Balscadden. All races will finish in Balscadden Village.
Then on Sunday 10th April, Stamullen GP races will depart from Gormanston College at 12:15 pm with Senior A1-A2 race for the Joey Whyte Memorial Cup, followed by the Senior A3-J, Senior A4, Under 16, Under 14 and Under 12 races. The race route will be Gormanston, Stamullen, Gilligans Cross, Naul, Balgaddy, Tubbertown, Balscadden, Gormanston, Stamullen (where all races will finish). Races will all be over by 3:30 pm.
We appeal to residents along the race route to please cooperate by leaving the circuit free from any obstacles that might cause a problem, particularly loose dogs out on the road. Delays in the village while these races are passing through will happen and again at the race finishes, but will be kept to a minimum. Please help us to make it a very safe days racing for the hundreds of cyclists from all over the country that will arrive in the village over next weekend.
We thank our race sponsors who make all of this possible. The Whyte family (Stamullen), SafeLink, Peleus Steel, East Meath CU, Flo Gas, Quay Cycles, Dee’s Barbers, East Meath Tarmacadam & Concrete, Leinster Cycling Council, Tommy Dowd Oil, and also thanks to those who handed in donations and asked not to be named. All very much appreciated.
