Stamullen Road Club
After months of very hard work putting together our weekend cycle races, the time is upon us.
On Saturday morning at 10:30 the U-12 to 16 & U.16 road races got underway with a circuit from Balscadden. Then at 11:45 the Senior Race around the same circult for the John Reilly Perpetual Cup (a new cup donated by the family of the late John Reilly and presented to Stamullen Road Club to host this race in John’s memory), this the club were honoured to do.
On Sunday it will be the Stamullen Grand Prix (National Series 2016) race and here all (6) races will depart from Gormanston College grounds at 12:15. The circuit will be the usual – Gormanston, Stamullen, Gilligan’s Cross, Naul, Whitetown Cross, Balgaddy, Tobertown, Balscadden, Gormanston, Stamullen (where all races will finish).
We know that these races will cause delays in the village while passing through and race finishes, we promise to keep delays to a minimum and ask for patience and cooperation. It will be a huge task on Sunday as in excess of 300 riders are expected to participate in the various races. We have done everything possible to advertise these racing passing along the route by placing road signage around the complete circuit, through the Newsletter, LMFM, Drogheda & Fingal Independent in an all-out effort to make the race a success and minimise inconvenience.
We thank our loyal volunteers who assist annually with the running of these races and would like to mention that they are invaluable.
We also thank our race sponsors, they include, Brendan & Liz Whyte, John Hughes (SafeLink), Quay Cycles Drogheda, Dee’s Barbers, Drogheda Credit Union, Flo Gas, Peter Sullivan (Peleus Steel) and Eastern Tarmacadam & Concrete, Tommy Dowd Oil and also those who donated and asked not to be named. Without these business people who continually support us, we just could not promote our races at the top level which riders from all corners of Ireland who arrive in Stamullen have become accustomed to, so thank you one-and-all.
