End of an Era!

During the week I received a letter from the Provincial of the Franciscan Order, Fr. Aidan McGrath, to inform me that the weekly mass celebrated in the Franciscan Chapel will be discontinued after Sunday, 29th April, as a result of declining vocations.  It  marks an end of the association between the Franciscans and the parish, and I received the news with great regret and deep sadness.  I will greatly miss their support of the parish and their priestly fraternity.  I wish them well in the future.  As this is Vocations Sunday our prayer is that more labourers be sent to the harvest so that the harvest can be fully saved.                                                              Fr. Declan

World Day of Prayer for Vocations

Today the Church throughout the world prays for Vocations.  Will you make a special effort to ask the Lord for more vocations to the priesthood and religious life?

  • Pray for the priests who have ministered to you throughout your life, both living and dead
  • Keep your Parish priests in your prayers throughout the week.
  • Encourage your children, grandchildren, or other young people to consider a vocation as a priest or religious brother or sister.
  • Pray a rosary for more young men and women in our diocese to respond to God’s call.

R.I. P.

Your prayers are requested for the repose of the soul of Gerry Brennan, whose funeral took place during the week and Tess Bull (nee Hoey), Shallon who passed away in England during the week.  We remember the bereaved in our prayers.

We would also like to thank the Franciscans for granting permission for the ceremony to take place in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Gormanston College.

  • Letter of thanks from  Meath Diocesan Adoration Committee in relation to 40 Hours Adoration in Meath diocese in 7 locations:

On behalf of the Meath Diocesan Adoration Committee, we wish to express our sincere thanks to Bishop Michael Smith, priests, religious and lay people, for their support of the 40 Hours Adoration for the Protection of Life, that was held in 7 locations in our diocese.

The response was incredible and from reports, the attendance averaged about 26 people per hour in all locations, Mullingar, Navan, Drogheda, Kells, Kilcloon, and Tullamore. Some had up to 100 people for a lot of the hours.

A very special thanks to the priests who were so supportive and worked so hard with the Eucharistic Adoration members to make it so successful.  A big thanks to the organisers at each location for all the work leading up to the 40 Hours and for the work over that weekend.

Stamullen Road Club

Over the past few weeks the club riders have been racing really well. To date David Wherity has won three top class races,  Ras Naomh Finian, Boyne GP, and Laois GP, then Cian Delaney, Arek Klus, Sean Landers all performed well in the Tour of the North over Easter.  Unfortunately, Colin Robinson was dogged with mechanical troubles in this 3-Day, 4-stage race. Cian was involved in all the right moves over this particular weekend. Cian Delaney finished 7th in the Senior A1 Coombes Connor race on Sunday last at Kilsharvan.

On Wednesday night of this week, Sean Landers had a fine win in the McNally Swords Summer H/C League which was held in Duleek.
